North Country Home Watch began as an offshoot of North Country Home Inspections, a home inspection business that I started back in 2001. After a number of years performing hundreds of home inspections for real estate transactions, it occurred to me that my experience and training as a home inspector would be of value to seasonal residents in the form of a home watch service. When I investigated other home watch services, I was surprised that none of the ones that I came across, had any home inspection certifications or training. Needless to say, I was surprised because the main focus of a home watch service is to inspect the home for any abnormalities that might turn up. Basically, what we do is a limited home inspection, focusing on the things that can go wrong, for any number of reasons. It made too much sense to not expand into the home watch services business.

In 2010, I formed North Country Property Services, LLC as the umbrella company for North Country Home Inspections, North Country Home Watch and North Country Energy Solutions (we perform energy audits). In each of these businesses, the skill sets are the same but the focus for each of them are different. Some of the tools that I employ in all of these businesses are an infrared camera, moisture meters, a carbon monoxide sniffer, a combustible gas detector, a trained eye and a nose for potential problems. I am a Certified Home Inspector, certified by InterNACHI and a member in good standing of the Maine Coalition of Home Inspection Professionals (MeCHIPs). In addition, I have passed the National Home Inspector Examination. I am also an ITC Certified Infrared Thermographer.
Many times I am asked if I am licensed. Unfortunately, Maine does not yet have a licensing program for home inspectors. Anyone who advertises that they are licensed in Maine is not telling the truth.
